lfO
more hands!
Description
midi
lfO
is a powerful standalone application for the automatic generation of oscillating
MIDI CC data. Single or multiple instances of midi
lfO
can
be run simultaneously to assist in the control of MIDI-enabled applications
(MEA) and machines in both studio and live performance environments. Typical
MEAs include Reason, Ableton Live, Orion, Absynth (standalone), Traktor
etc. An example of a MIDI machine would be a Machinedrum, a lighting rig
or a Nord Lead synth.
Architecture
midi
lfO
has a twin oscillator design. Both oscillators offer a wide variety of
waveforms. The second oscillator runs at multiples of the first oscillator's
frequency and the amount of modulation can be varied. The speed of the
primary oscillator can be set in Hertz or as a function of BPM.
Controls
All
midi
lfO
parameters
are set using either drop down menus or by [click]+drag. Parameters can
also be fine adjusted using [ctrl]+[click]+drag. The interface can be
resized from the drop down menus in the titlebar. The best thing to do
is hook it up to your DAW and have a play around!
Connections
The
MIDI output port that midi
lfO
will
send data to is selected from the 'MIDIout' drop down menu. Hardware devices
that can receive MIDI are shown here as well as any 'virtual' ports you
have on your machine. Virtual ports can be created with programs like
MIDI Yoke which is available here.
Virtual ports are great as they enable you to patch midi
lfO
data straight into your music software as though it was coming from a
hardware controller, which is really the main objective of the program.
Just install MIDI Yoke then set your software to receive MIDI on the same
virtual port that midi
lfO
is
sending data to.
